The organs of a 12 year-old Palestinian boy mistakenly killed by Israeli soldiers have been transplanted to Israeli patients, helping to save their lives.
Ahmed al-Khatib was shot during clashes in Jenin last week when soldiers mistook his toy gun for a real one. He later died in a hospital. The Israel Defense Forces regretted the incident. Ahmed's kidneys, liver, lungs and heart were transplated to a total of six patients, including Israeli Arabs, Jews, and Druze. One of the recipients was 12 year-old Samah Gadban, who had been waiting for a new heart for five years. Her father thanked Ahmed's family "from the depths of my heart" and called the donation a "gesture of love". (275 words in story) Read and discuss full story By Drog (Canada), Section Israel
Israel's Supreme Court has ruled that the government must consider re-routing part of its controversial West Bank Barrier, which is still under construction. The court ordered that a section of Israel's separation barrier be torn down in the northern part of the occupied West Bank in order to enable Palestinians to move freely. It also ruled that a portion of the barrier near the Palestinian town of Qalqilya be dismantled because it effectively imprisons residents of five Palestinian villages and cuts them off from the rest of the West Bank.
A village petition said nearly every Palestinian in the Alfei Menashe enclave had lost their job. (282 words in story) Read and discuss full story By Drog (Canada), Section Israel

Israeli soldiers are clearing the last of the 21 Jewish settlements in the Gaza strip, 38 years after Israel first occupied it. A total of 8,500 people have been evacuated, and many existing houses have been bulldozed to make way for Palestinian construction.
Its 600 residents are expected to leave peacefully after negotiating with police. They will depart in a fleet of armoured buses and head to the Western Wall in Jerusalem, the holiest shrine in Judaism. (522 words in story) Read and discuss full story By Drog (Canada), Section Israel

Israeli troops have begun implementing the historic pullout plan from the Gaza Strip by delivering eviction notices to the remaining settlers. They now have 48 hours, beginning this morning at 00:00 (UTC+3) to withdraw from their settlements before the army removes them by force. Many settlers have vowed to resist their evacuation and promised fierce but nonviolent resistance. They have blocked the gate of Neve Dekalim, one of the largest settlements in the Strip, and called upon the soldiers to refuse their orders. But Maj. Gen. Dan Harel, Israel's commander over the Gaza Strip, said the army will not waiver: "We will reach every settler, just as we have planned."
