What do grapes, chocolates, and oysters have in common? Well, aside from the fact they are food, they're all supposedly aphrodisiacs. An aphrodisiac is basically a food or drug that has an effect on your sexual health, normally by increasing desire and arousal.

Now, while all foods have actually been understood to release varying levels of endorphins into the body in the same method sex does, they are not necessarily all that beneficial to one's sexual health. Obviously, that doesn't imply that food doesn't play a part in a person's sex life, due to the fact that there's a fair bit of clinical information saying that it does.

The brain is the core of all activity that concerns the body, including sexual function. If you replace nutritious meals with treats or junk food it can seriously decrease the typical flow of nutrients to the brain,
making it less capable of processing all the emotions and stimuli involved in sexual activity. In other words, the lack of nutrients can decrease the body's ability to take pleasure in sexual relations.

Sexual health is linked to the general state of the circulatory system. Blood circulation is necessary not just for the correct functioning of internal organs but also for the male and female reproductive organs. So, if the blood or the heart vessels are not funtioning properly, it likewise has a negative effect on the body's ability to function affectively throughout sexual intercourse. Increased or enhanced blood flow helps increase the level of sensitivity to stimuli of the appropriate organs and increases the level of physical endurance during sexual intercourse.

So how can the right food help? Eating well affects your overall health, so it makes sense that it would affect your sexual health as well, they are connected as we live in the same body. So if we look for example at Nitric Oxide (NO), that with the intake of arginine which is typically found in walnuts, almonds, and salmon the body producces Nitric Oxide, arginine improves circulation and sexual health.

Antioxidants, especially the ones that are ]chemically abundant in dark chocolate, also have positive effects on sexual efficiency and health. Antioxidants are connected to improved blood flow, something that has already been pointed out as being beneficial to sex. Other excellent sources consist of tomatoes, spinach, garlic, red peppers, and red grapes. Some explain that chocolate somehow also increases desire together with improving performance, likely because elements of chocolate can improve blood circulation.

So maybe aphrodisiacs do not work in the way we have been lead to believe, but certain foods have a specific impact on the body which in turn affects our sexual health and wellness. It is a nother reminder that the body functions as a whole.
